TEST-A-FIRE RELEASE DEVICE
Motor operated fire door automatic closure control w/release device & battery backup

All-Rite's Test-A-Fire System allow the user to test a door without having to
manually reset the release mechanism, thus encouraging testing and
eliminating costly service calls for resetting.
The Test-A-Fire System is for use on fire doors that must be connected to smoke detectors/alarm
systems, doors requiring testing several times during the year, doors
mounted above a ceiling with limited access, and doors installed in
locations with limited occupancy of general public. It is designed to
be used with motorized doors incorporating a reversing feature safety edge
to create an automated door closing system. “DO NOT” install this unit without a safety edge.
The Test-A-Fire Release Device/Control Panel is a U.L. Listed, Canadian Listed (C-UL)
and California State Fire Marshal Listed (CSFM) normally energized Fail-Safe
device incorporating state of the art electronic control circuitry.
The Test-A-Fire high performance control panel responds to emergency
conditions generated by manual or automatic initiating devices.
Upon activation from such a device, the unit can provide a voice warning
(option) indicating that a closure is about to occur and will then
close the door thru the motor. If the alarm is still present and power is
available to the operator, the door can be opened by depressing the
open switch of the operator, after which the door will close again. If the
door meets an obstruction while in alarm, the door will reverse and
make three attempts to close, after which the motor will be shut off and the
release mechanism will release the door onto the obstruction.
The unit can be factory ordered with cycle count from 1 thru 10 (3 count
standard), as well as continuous cycling capability. A safety timer
within the unit will turn the motor off and perform a mechanical release if
the lower limit is not detected within a predetermined time
period. Verify factory installed options to desired features.
The Test-A-Fire features include time delay on alarm, remote test, motor
voltage sensing, form-C output, lower limit detection, safety
timer, battery support for release device logic, smoke detectors,
multi-lingual voice (option), standard annunciators and trouble diagnostic
capabilities (does not support motor). Check model label on unit to be
installed to verify operating voltage.
Features:
- Solid state fail safe operation
- 72 hour battery backup
- Diagnostic LED's
- Obstruction logic for self close function
- Down limit detection
- Motor voltage sensing
- Supports up to 4 auxiliary devices
- Sounder strobe
- Keyed Test Station (flush mounted, non-masterkeyable)
- Adjustable 0-10 sec. Delay On Alarm Response Release
Applications:
- Motor operated service fire doors (w/release arm drop out) GH, H and FJ operators w/B2 wiring (modification required, see below)
- Motor operated counter fire doors with GJ operators w/B2 wiring (modification req'd, see below
- Reversing edge required on all Test-A-Fire Device doors
Options:
- Smoke Detector(s)
- Speaker Strobe (w/voice module) 2 max per unit
Operation:
Upon activation of alarm system and/or smoke detector, two scenarios are possible:
- Upon power loss to unit (initiated by alarm system/smoke detector or
complete power outage), unit will delay up to 30 sec before mechanically
releasing. If power is restored prior to releasing, the unit will abort
release.
Four wire operation (power supply can be independent from alarm system)
- Motor power present. Unit will initiate delay (audible and visual warnings activate). After delay time is up unit will motor the door to the closed position.
- Motor power not present. Unit will initiate delay (audible and visual warnings activate). After delay time is up, unit will mechanically release.
Obstruction Logic. During powered closure (alarm condition) door will reverse upon striking an obstruction. Unit will attempt a maximum of three closure cycles, after which door will stop on obstruction and unit will mechanically release. If door reaches fully closed position, unit will not release.
Testing: The key test station enables remote testing of the unit's basic operation. The key test station does not simulate an alarm condition or test the fire alarm system. It is intended to test the closure of the door only. The following functions are not invoked when the key test station is used: time delay and cycle counter (door will continue to cycle if an obstruction is encountered). The test button on the enclosure will simulate an alarm condition and the unit will activate normally.
Modifications:
Motor operators will require special Test-A-Fire control modifications
